FABULOUS early Paragon teacup, probably one of the first series made in warrant issue. A multitude of wonderful spring flowers encircle this set, like an English garden! Beautiful painted work on raised patterned bone china. The pattern of the china is very extensive and unique - relief basket weave between raised gradient ruffles. The cup and saucer edges call to mind the ruffled edges of flowers. The cup, however, does have quite extensive crazing. Also, the inside of the cup and bottom show staining. The gold trim has minor wear. There are no chips or cracks on either piece. The cup measures 2 1/2 inches tall by 3 1/4 inches wide. The saucer measures 5 1/4 inches across.
The backstamp indicates this set was manufactured between April 1933 and Dec1934, based on the warrant issue dates. Numbered F693 (or could be F492) with artists initial "D.". Single Royal crest "Paragon by appointment, Made in England. Regd". This was the first Royal Warrant issued by Queen Mary to Paragon. It is important to note that this was the first time Paragon achieved such a high award, which makes this set, despite its issues mentioned above, certainly worthy of attention. A wonderful display piece!
