FABULOUS HAWTHORN pattern from the ROYAL ALBERT Flower of the Month Series of 1940. This gorgeous set is number 5 of the series of 12 flowers, artist's number 3028. Bone china made in England tea cup and saucer with a slight hue of blue at the top of the floral arrangement and bows of purple and pale yellow hawthorn flowers. The cup shape appears to be Hampton. The cup measures 2 3/4" high and 3 " wide. The saucer measures 5 1/2" wide with a scalloped edge.
The other flower patterns in this series in order from 1 to 12 are Snowdrop, Violets, Daffodil, Daisy, Hawthorn, Dog Rose, Water Lily, Poppy, Morning Glory, Cosmos, Chrysanthemum, Holly. The series first originated in 1930, and although the flower names were the same for each month, the floral pattern changed. The 1940's edition had the same flower names but with more complex and detailed floral designs. The 1970's edition of Flowers of the Month had some different flower names and arrangements. The backstamp on the 1970's also contained a floral design.
